Afternoon Bridge

Looking for new members and willing substitutes! We meet at 11:30 am  at the Star City Restaurant followed by bridge (eighteen hands of  rubber bridge scoring). Call to join or to be listed as a substitute.  It’s always fun and your dues support the Branch’s Scholarship Program.

(October through May) at Bethlehem Public Library in the Tondabayashi Room. Anyone who has read the selection is welcomed by this community group.  No fee. 

.Let’s Read Math

A community outreach program open to any member who enjoys working with elementary-aged children.  It combines reading children’s books to help discover the joy of reading with a fun math lesson related to the books to help them build positive attitudes toward math.  This is a combined effort with the Allentown Branch AAUW.  Members work in teams to present the stories to groups of children in their classrooms and community settings.

LRM volunteers will present interactive math-based programming on November 5 and 10 at the after-school program at Sheridan School and Mosseer School in Allentown.  Call Judy Lappen (610/868-1594) for information an to volunteer.  This award-winning project welcomes donations of colorful markers, name tags, mini marshmallows, and Post-it notes.  If you care to make a cash contribution, our gift will be used to purchase additional materials and for Xeroxing.

LRM volunteers were highlighted in an article with photos in the Bethlehem Press in November. We presented interactive math-based programming to 150+ elementary students in November and December. As we prepare for our 2010 programs in schools we are seeking enthusiastic new volunteers. Training provided. Please call Fran Bentkowski at 610-866-7462.
