AAUW Releases New Research on Sexual Harassment

Drawing the Line: Sexual Harassment on Campus, provides the most comprehensive findings to date on sexual harassment among undergraduate college students.  From a nationally representative survey of both male female undergraduates 18 to 24 years old, the report broadens our knowledge of how college  students identify, experience, and react to forms of sexual harassment.

The study found that nearly two-thirds of college students (62%) say they have encountered some type of sexual harassment while on campus.  This translates into roughly six million college students who are sexually harassed nationwide.  Female students who are harassed are more likely than male students to feel embarrassed, angry, less confident, and afraid.  Nearly 20% of female college students who are harassed say they feel disappointed with their college experience - compared to 11% of male students.

National television networks covered the report including CNN, CBS Early Show, MSNBC, MTV.com, Cox Broadcast, and local affiliates for CBS, ABC, NBC, and Fox in Washington, DC, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and many other cities.  Major newspapers and news services also carried the research including The New York Times, Gannet News Service, The Washington Post, Reuters, United Press International, and USA Today.
